Meet Vilde and Ruben, former interns - current Vendies

We caught up with two former interns, Vilde and Ruben, to hear about their time as summer students, and how those early experiences shaped their careers. From shipping real features to learning the power of asking for help, their stories show just how impactful an internship can be.

Hi Vilde, what is your role today?
I am the Director of AI Engineering and Data Science in the Department of AI

When did you do your internship at Vend, and which team or department were you part of?
I interned with the FINN Travel team in 2014, with seven other students. We made an availability calendar for holiday rentals, where potential travellers can see when cabins are available.

What surprised you the most about your internship experience?
What surprised me the most was that when I started in FINN again in 2021, the calendar was still live! With almost no changes - luckily it was replaced with a more modern version not long after :)

Can you tell us about something you worked on that made you feel proud?
I made some changes in a legacy system that most of the Travel engineers were hesitant to touch. (don't worry, though, they were working hard to replace it with a maintainable system)

What were your biggest learnings or key takeaways from this experience?
We had struggled a lot with getting our CI/CD pipeline up and running on our own, and I managed to find someone in the infrastructure team who could help me set it up. I learned that the smoothest way to learn something is to find someone who already knows and ask them to teach you.

Hi Ruben, what is your role today?
I am a Software Engineer in Core Marketplaces Platform

When did you do your internship at Vend, and which team or department were you part of?
I was a summer student in 2022 in the tech department.

What surprised you the most about your internship experience?
We successfully wrote a feature for Finn.no and deployed it in production within a short time frame.

Can you tell us about something you worked on that made you feel proud?
Our project was “shared favourites” - meaning users could create lists of favourites and have others add/remove ads and comment on the content. I thought it was very cool to enable collaboration like that.

What were your biggest learnings or key takeaways from this experience?
You can really get things done while having fun, learning on the job and maintaining a personal sustainable tempo.

Are you a tech or design student ready to jump in and help shape the future of FINN?
Check out our open positions.
